First day of Intersolar Mexico brings together leading experts at its international conference and exhibits solutions on the show floor for the photovoltaic, solar thermal and energy storage industries.

Press Release – Wednesday, September 4, 2024

Mexico City, September 4, 2024 - The 5th edition of Intersolar Mexico, the 31st edition of THE GREEN EXPO® and the 8th edition of Aquatech Mexico successfully commenced. These co-located events will run until September 5, 2024, at Centro Citibanamex in Mexico City.

Positioned as Mexico's most important B2B platform, it features the participation of 400 companies from 20 countries, showcasing solutions for the industrial, commercial and government sectors in an environment that fosters innovation, collaboration and networking.

In its 5th edition, Intersolar Mexico brings together the photovoltaic, solar thermal, and energy storage industries at a strategic moment for renewable energy in Mexico. The exhibition floor featured the presence of major companies from these sectors, including SMA, Astroenergy, Risen, IM Energy Power Plant, Elit (Gold Sponsor), Yingli, TW Solar, Sunlink, and Antai.

During the first days of activities at Intersolar Mexico, the program of its International Conference generated great anticipation among attendees due to its quality and relevance in the current context of the country, given the expected change in public policies that could be more favorable for harnessing the potential of solar and energy storage technologies.

Over the course of two days, 18 sessions were held, led by 36 national and international speakers, the majority of whom were women. These women have become leading voices in the industry, promoting gender equity and contributing their valuable knowledge to this important forum.

Notable was the participation of Patricia Tatto, President of Women in Renewable Energy Mexico, who discussed the network congestion in Mexico’s electrical system and the need for expanding transmission and distribution lines. In this context, technology plays a crucial role in increasing installed capacity.

“We need to learn from the energy storage systems being deployed in other countries like Great Britain, Australia, Chile, or China, which have a significant concentration of renewables and systems like batteries to help provide flexibility and alleviate network congestion,” emphasized Tatto.

David Wedepohl, Managing Director of International Affairs of the German Solar Association (BSW), explained that Germany has installed over one million photovoltaic systems, demonstrating that investment and infrastructure are key to success. “Reducing bureaucracy and ensuring the availability of land have been essential in accelerating the development of solar projects and achieving our renewable energy targets for 2030,” he added.

Brad Heavner, Policy Director of California Solar & Storage Association (CALSAA) addressed three challenges in managing California's electrical grid. The first is the peak demand that occurs during the summer; secondly, there is the overproduction of solar energy in the middle of the day, which requires increased storage; and thirdly, the contracts with natural gas planners, which can be costly and unreliable.

"California has a mandate to reach 60% renewable energy use by 2030, and currently, we are at 35%, so there is still a long way to go because gas is still widely used, mainly by power plants that have exceeded their useful life and should be retired not only for safety reasons but also for reliability," said Heanver.

Visitors to Intersolar Mexico also had the opportunity to attend insightful presentations at the Intersolar Stage, which offers a free program of 18 exhibitor-led conferences over the course of the three-day event.

Among the exhibitors participating in this area are leading companies such as Wade Rain, Bottcher Systems, Livoltek, Diaxinova, and Grundfos. Additionally, Intersolar Mexico partners include: Mexican Photovoltaic Industry Association (AMIF); National Solar Energy Association (ANES); Mexican Manufacturers in Renewable Energies (FAMERAC); Heat Changers; Women in Renewable Energy Mexico (MERM); Network of Women in Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (REDMEREE); Federation of Associations of Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, and Related Engineers of the Mexican Republic (FECIME); Mexican-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CAMEXA); and the Mexican Energy Storage Network.

Some of the topics discussed during the first two days of activities at the Intersolar Stage included: Sustainable alternatives to lithium; Sustainable energy in agriculture; Connecting inverters, chargers, and preparing for the future with energy backup; Qualified personnel in renewable energy installations and energy efficiency; Solutions to eliminate the use of gas in industrial processes through renewable energy; Thermal energy in Mexico, challenges and opportunities; among others.

On the exhibition floor, numerous solutions from manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, and installers can be observed, making it the ideal forum for developing new business opportunities and cooperation ties.

“We are very excited to participate as exhibitors at Intersolar Mexico. It is a great opportunity for companies looking to promote their brand and products. For our company, this is the best option to do. In this space, we connect with our target market, increase the possibility of creating business, and meet potential clients, suppliers, and partners, that's why we always like to return,” commented Nelson Han, Sales Manager, XYZ Storage.

“For us, the Mexican market is extremely important, not only because of its investment capacity and geographic conditions but also because it is very close to the United States, and we want to take advantage of that bridge,” noted Poppy Chen, Sales Director, Sunergy.

“It is highly relevant to participate in exhibitions like Intersolar Mexico because we connect with industry professionals: companies, installers, distributors, commercial and residential clients. It offers us a network of potential customers, making it a strategic space that, in addition to boosting our sales closures, positions us in the market,” mentioned Raquel Luo, Sales Manager, TW Solar.
